Army Specialist Alexis Jacquez Gamez

Army Specialist Alexis Jacquez Gamez enlisted in the army in 2002 out of Yuma, Arizona out of a love for his country. He was born in Mexico but said the United States took him in as one of his own, and he joined the Army out of appreciation. He medically retired in 2011.

Specialist Jacquez Gamez was severely injured in Iraq in November of 2003 when he said his team was assigned to bring American soldiers back to their forward operating base (FOB). As his vehicle was driving, it struck an improvised explosive device (IED), causing shrapnel to enter his face, neck, shoulder, arm, elbow and leg. His Kevlar helmet was blown off and took a hit that likely saved his life. 

A firefight ensued and Specialist Jacquez Games continued fighting until he passed out. He was evacuated to a combat hospital for emergency surgery. He also suffers from TBI, PTSD, seizures, migraines, hearing loss and   tinnitus. 

For his service to his country, Specialist Jacquez Games has been awarded the Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism  Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and is a Distinguished Member of the unit B Co. 2-502nd Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne.

Specialist Jacquez Gamez, his wife Mariana and their three children will be gifted a mortgage-free home in Sun City, Arizona.
