Thank you Buffalo!
On Saturday, September 11, 2010, the great people of Western New York came out to support the inaugural "Celebrate Our Heroes" dinner/dance at the Transit Valley County Club. All proceeds of the event will benefit non-profit organization Building Homes for Heroes and Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco of Staten Island, NY.
Specialist Marrocco is a quadruple-amputee, the first soldier to lose all four limbs while in combat in Iraq. Building Homes for Heroes is building Marrocco a new home on Staten Island. The event was organized by Gina and Erik O’Neill of Williamsville. The event raised approximately $27,000.
The evening was kicked off with colors being presented by the United States Air Force Honor Guard of Niagara Falls, NY and the national anthem sang by USAF Captain Gina Pizziconi-Cupples. Paul O’Neill, USAF (Retired) carried out the symbolic Fallen Comrade Ceremony, which was followed by a Flag-Folding Ceremony performed by the members of the USAF Honor Guard. The audience was led in prayer by United States Marine Corps Chaplain Richard Clark. Anthony Grisanti, a member of the board of directors at Building Homes for Heroes, addressed the audience after dinner.
The event organizers would like to thank all the guests for their generosity, and local business owners for all of their support. Special thanks go out to Angela Becker, Stacey Benson, Victoria Brunner, Kristin Friend, Kathy Green, and Kathy Weppner.
