Over $5,000 raised at Bataan Death March Marathon

Building Homes for Heroes would like to thank, Kathy Marmon for her support.  On March 23, 2014, Kathy competed in the 25th Annual Bataan wearing a 40-pound backpack).  For the second consecutive year, funds raised by Kathy went donated to Building Homes for Heroes.  Ms. Marmon raised over $5,000 at this year's event.

Army Staff Sergeant Visala Tui

Army Staff Sergeant Visala Tui joined the military out of American Samoa in 1996 as a Reservist, and transferred to Active Service a year later. Staff Sergeant Tui proudly served the country for 14 and 1/2 years. He served with HHC, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment (Wolfhounds), 3rd Brigade (Broncos), and the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning).

Army Major Robert Kilmartin

Army Major Robert Kilmartin joined the U.S. Military because he felt a greater purpose to serve America, and felt it was his patriotic duty. His grandfather served in World War II and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (4x) and the Air Medal (6x). Major Kilmartin’s stepfather was also a major influence in his life, having served over 30 years in the Army.

Army Staff Sergeant Jeremy Wilson

US Army SSG Jeremy Wilson enlisted in the Army National Guard out of Oregon because his grandfather had served in WWII and always spoke highly of his service.  Wilson selected the National Guard mainly because he was unsure as to whether he would like being a soldier full time. On his 21st birthday, he enlisted active and served in Germany and Bosnia.

USMC SSG Rafael Arias Fernandez

United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Rafael Arias Fernandez was severely injured in Iraq on April 14, 2003. While on security duty for a supply convoy advancing toward Bagh- dad, his unit was ambushed by enemy forces. The ambush consisted of small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs). He was wounded when the unit sustained a secondary blast from two simultaneously RPGs.
