USMC Corporal Kevin Vaughan

United States Marine Corps Corporal Kevin Vaughan, of the Third Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, was wounded in Afghanistan in September of 2011 when the vehicle he was traveling in struck an 80-pound pressure plate (improvised explosive device) while he was carrying out combat operations in the Southern Helmand province in Afghanistan. Five marines were severely injured. Corporal Vaughan was transported by medevac to Bagram Airfield for immediate treatment before being transferred to Germany, and then to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Long Islander competes in grueling ultramarathon for Building Homes for Heroes

On October 17, 2014, Robert Witt (Huntington, New York) competed in the Pony Express Trail 50 Endurance Run in Western Utah, finishing in a time of 11 hours, 27 minutes. Thirty-four participants completed the remote, dirt course; running in the hoof prints of history! The $3,500 that was raised by those who sponsored Robert's effort will benefit Building Homes for Heroes.

Veterans Benefit Burrito Breakfast

On Sunday, August 31, 2014, a Biker Breakfast & Motorcycle Parade will be held as part of the annual Four Corners Motorcycle Rally/Labor Day Weekend celebration in Durango, Colorado. Among the many festivities is a Veterans Benefit Burrito Breakfast to benefit Building Homes for Heroes® at Transit Center 8th & Camino Del Rio from 8:00-11:00am. The morning's activities will include a Classic Car Show in the parking lot of the First National Bank, a presentation of colors by American Legion of Bikers, and the annual Bike & Classic Car Parade.

Thank You Home Depot Foundation

Building Homes for Heroes is pleased to announce it has received a $250,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation (THDF) which will used in the renovation of 10 homes for veterans in the state of Florida over the next year. THDF has pledged to ensure that veterans have a safe place to call home. Since 2002, TDHF has granted more than $270 million to nonprofit organizations to improve homes and lives in communities throughout the country. Building Homes for Heroes would like to thank Joe Wimberley, THDF Field Manager - Southern Division, for his assistance in securing this grant.
